Obituary of OWEN LEE WILSON, JR.

Owen Lee Wilson, Jr., 66, of Gibsonton, Florida passed away, from natural causes, surrounded by his family on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 1:05 p.m. at The Hospice House in Sun City, Florida.

Owen was born and raised in Tampa, Florida to Owen Lee Wilson, Sr. and Blanchie D. Wilson. He graduated from Brandon High School and retired from Hillsborough County Public Works, where he worked as a Supervisor. Owen loved the outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish, camp, and anything to do with racing. He frequented East Bay Raceway in Gibsonton, Florida and loved to attend NASCAR races. He also loved bowling and, as his kids would say, “running the roads”. He was a hard one to keep still for very long and he enjoyed life to its fullest. He never turned down a road trip and was always ready to go at a moment’s notice! His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy and he beamed with pride when he spoke of them.

Owen was preceded in death by his parents, Owen Lee Wilson, Sr. & Blanchie D. Wilson, and his sister Mildred R. Wilson.  He is survived by his children, Owen Lee Wilson, III of Gibsonton, FL, Daniel John Wilson of Opelousas, Louisiana, and Rachel Kaye Wilson (Fiancé Chris Ortego) of Port Barre, Louisiana along with his grandchildren Dore Wilson and Karson Wilson of Port Barre, Louisiana; his sisters Evelyn (Burle) Taylor of Fort Myers, Florida, Alice (Jack) Stephens of Riverview, Florida, JoAnn (Jimmy) Dixon of Georgetown, Georgia, and Rachel Wilson of Lakeland, Florida; his former wife, Sue Wilson of Gibsonton, Florida, his former step-children, Michael Johns of Gibsonton, Florida, Bruce (Catherine) Talley of Plant City, Florida and Joe (Amanda) Talley of Plant City, Florida; six step-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Services will be held this Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Gibsonton located at 9912 Indiana Street, Gibsonton, Florida 33534, all are welcome.
